Parent/carer events

We hold regular parent/carer events including information evenings and a welcome meeting for the parents/carers of new students.

You can check to see when the next parent/carer event is on the events page

Attendance and monitoring

We place great emphasis on attendance and employ a range of robust practices to monitor and track attendance and progress.

We use eTrackr to do this, a software system that teachers, students and parents/carers all have access to.

Money matters

The Newcastle Sixth Form College Bursary Fund is a cash bursary that is paid directly to the student to help with travel costs to college.

Student support

We support our students in lots of different ways.

Preparation for life after Newcastle Sixth Form College

Our students also have access to a Progression Co-ordinator and a Career Advisor.

Our Progression Co-ordinator is on hand to offer advice and guidance on applying to university and the UCAS process, as well as organising our successful annual Higher Education Progression Fair.

They are also experienced in offering support and guidance to students who choose to take part in additional further education opportunities, such as the Sutton Trust US Programme.

Detroit Osei-Bonsu took part in the programme in the summer of 2014. Read her story

Learning Support Service

The Learning Support Service (LSS) provides a range of support throughout their entire time at Newcastle Sixth Form College.

They provide a specialist assessment for each student, to establish what support is required, and work in collaboration with curriculum staff to reduce barriers to learning, enhancing opportunity and success.

Academic Tutor Groups

Students join a tutor group of around 25 students and will meet with their Academic Tutor each week.

Academic Tutors encourage the development of independence, confidence and ambition during these sessions, and students can access any additional support that they might need.
