Preparation for life after Newcastle Sixth Form College

You will also have access to a Progression Co-ordinator and a Career Advisor.

Our Progression Co-ordinator is on hand to offer advice and guidance on applying to university and the UCAS process, as well as organising our successful annual Higher Education Progression Fair.

They are also experienced in offering support and guidance to students who choose to take part in additional further education opportunities, such as the Sutton Trust US Programme.

Learning Support Service

The Learning Support Service (LSS) provides a range of support.

They can provide a specialist assessment for you to establish what support is required, and work in collaboration with curriculum staff to reduce barriers to learning, enhancing opportunity and success.

Academic Tutor Groups

You will join a tutor group of around 25 students and will meet with your Academic Tutor for four hours of tutorial each week.

You will be encouraged to develop your independence, confidence and ambition during these sessions, and you can access any additional support that you might need.

Enrichment takes place throughout the year in a variety of different formats. Within subjects, enrichment opportunities are built in to the planning for the year and might include a visit to a local university, the opportunity to take part in a national competition or opportunities to listen to guest speakers.

In addition, on a Wednesday afternoon, enrichment is a compulsory activity for all Y12 students. A wide range of activates are available to choose from in the following groups (you will be encouraged try and take part in at least one activity from each group while you are here).

- Active (e.g. football, Zumba, running club, climbing).

- Creative (e.g. life drawing, student newsletter, creative writing, photography, drama club).

- Service (any volunteering, primary paired reading, Ghana Connecting Classrooms, Society Club).

- Skills ( e.g. Mandarin for beginners, first aid, lab skills, debating society).

There is also the option to take part in some external enrichment which you have arranged yourself – perhaps connected to something you already do in a local primary school or with a charity.
